THE Millewa Football League has been reduced to six clubs for the season ahead after Meringur was forced into recession.

A small band of loyal supporters voted to pull the plug on the 2012 season after a poor turnout to the Kangaroos rescheduled annual general meeting.

The Kangaroos finished last season on the bottom of the ladder and have struggled to retain players in recent years.

Millewa league president Peter Hartmann said the news was very disappointing but that plans were already in place to ensure the foundation club was back in 2013.

"Meringur have elected a new committee and we will sit down with them in a couple of weeks and put a plan in place that will see them hopefully re-enter the league next season," Hartmann said.

"Our expectations and the expectation of the club is that they will be in recession for just 12months."
