MILDURA'S Murray Darling Basin meeting this Friday will only be the second held by the authority in Victoria.
Victorian Farmers Federation water council chairman Richard Anderson said irrigation communities had not "accepted" the draft basin plan.
"We are half way through the consultation period and only one meeting has been held in Victoria so far," Mr Anderson said.
"Irrigation communities are fighting hard to find some balance in the plan. The Draft Plan, in its current format, threatens food production and the viability of rural communities."
He said the VFF recognised there needed to be a plan but the current draft was unacceptable.
He said Victoria had already contributed its fair share of water and the plan was creating uncertainty in the southern basin.
"I hope that Mr Knowles listens closely to irrigators in Swan Hill and Mildura when he visits them this month so he can get a sense of understanding that the Draft Plan is short-sighted and bad for regional Victoria."
The authority is holding a drop-in session between 11am-1pm and a public meeting from 2pm at The Setts Bar and Function Centre in Mildura.
A meeting in Swan Hill is planned for February 22 from 1pm at the Church of Christ's The Grain Shed in King St.
