THERE'S never a dull moment when Bob Katter is on the hustings.
To launch his Australian Party's firearms policy in Brisbane on the weekend the federal independent MP challenged the media to a shoot-out.
Well not a real shoot-out - a clay pigeon shoot-off to be exact. And the trophy was his prized trademark hat.
After lamenting the tight control over firearms - "I want to live again in a country where men can grow up to be men," - he then announced his party's plans to relax gun ownership laws.
Toting a double-barrelled shotgun, Bob then blew away the opposition to win his own hat. But in good Aussie sportsmanship, he handed it over to the runner-up.
Bob said he didn't expect any of the major parties to steal his policy.
Just as well. The prospect of Tony Abbott wielding a shotgun in one of his action-man stunts is scary.
