AGRICULTURE was hopelessly out-spent on political donations by mining giants in the 2010 Federal Election campaign.

Figures released last week, show more than $113 million was donated to the coalition and $93 million to Labor.

It prompted rural independent Rob Oakeshott to urge voters to "challenge the power of money in politics".

He said the massive donations influenced policy and called for reform on the issue.

Most agriculture-related donations came from food processors.

Australian-owned wheat, sugar and foodstuffs giant Manildra donated almost $250,000 to Labor in 13 separate donations.

It gave more than $150,000 to the Liberal Party and also $115,000 to the Nationals.
