WOOL prices recorded their sharpest rises in more six months this week.
The AWEX Eastern Market Indicator rose 50 cents or 4 per cent to 1243c/kg clean on a weekly offering of 41,700 bales.
Exporters were surprised by strength of the market considering that the Australian dollar rose to US$1.08.
In US dollars the indicator rose 59 cents to US1339c/kg clean, its highest level since mid September.
Reports indicate that much of buying involved covering supplies for shipping deadlines.
Vittera was the major buyer with 6800 bales or 17 per cent of the clearances.
However relatively newcomer to the buying ranks Dalgety Wool was in the top four buyers with 2400 bales.
Dalgety Wool, which is Landmark exporting arm, tookover many of the staff and much of the business of the former Elders Wool Internatio0nal business in October.
