THE drought may be over but many Victorian country towns are still struggling to keep their lawn tennis courts going.
Ouyen Lawn Tennis Club is preparing for its 30th annual Labor Day tournament from March 10-12, and it could be one of its last on grass.
The club once boasted 18 courts and now has 10 under the care of its two curators.
Club stalwart Deane Munro said water costs and maintenance made it difficult for country communities to keep their lawn courts.
Ouyen is considering a synthetic surface.
Players from Melbourne, Swan Hill, Ararat, Adelaide and Mildura support the Ouyen tournament, billed as a family event. Club life member Margaret Gregg has played mixed events with all four of her sons and five of her grandsons at the tournament.
