SAD news from Donald about Bernard the island-dwelling bull.

Readers might remember the Angus bull (pictured) was stranded on an island in Lake Buloke when the lake filled after last January's floods and was stuck there until about three weeks ago, when the water level dropped enough for him to walk off.

Once a week throughout the year Bernard's owner Graeme Hodge rowed across to Bernard's island to drop off feed for him.

But despite surviving his year-long ordeal, Bernard was badly injured after he left the island and the Hodge family had to make the tough decision to put him down.

Back Paddock reckons a fitting tribute to Bernard would be to name the island after him.
