GIANT redgum and steel sculptures are set to celebrate the Murray region's timber-cutting heritage.

Titled A Tribute to Timber, the 3m-high sculptures will be installed this year at Mathoura and Pretty Pine, in southern NSW. They will form part of The Long Paddock touring route from Echuca-Moama to White Cliffs.

After a long selection process, Castlemaine artist Geoff Hocking won through with his works titled The Woodcutters and Smoko.

Four redgum posts, 3m high, will be used in The Woodcutters, along with steel figures.

To be installed at Pretty Pine, north of Deniliquin, is Smoko, a partly sawn redgum log with tools and a three-dimensional human figure.
