A NEW report lists Australian fruit and vegetables most at risk of pesticide residues above safe levels in the past decade.
The Friends of the Earth's 68-page report, The Dose Makes the Poison, listsd apples, strawberries, pears, grapes, lettuce, nectarines and peaches and also names wheat and bread.
However, the report says the imported food containing the most pesticide residues above safe levels during the past two years was Chinese peanut butter.
Researcher Anthony Amis said the scope of the residue testing was limited, with Victoria the only state giving full details on residues.
Apple and Pear Australia's Stuart Gray rejected the report's findings on apples, saying the industry had undertaken a nationwide testing program for the past 10 years, which had revealed 99.9 per cent compliance with maximum residue levels.
