COMMERCIAL producers pushed bull prices to $10,000 at Ashwood Park Charolais at Flowerdale near Yea in Victoria.
The annual autumn bull sale catalogued 43 bulls and sold 40 to average $4500, which was back from last year's high of $4959 for 37 bulls.
“We offered and sold more bulls this year,” Ashwood Park manager Duncan Newcomen said.
Commercial calf producers MJ and RF Pattison at Warrnambool paid the top money.
Mr Newcomen said the stud also sold 20 out of 20 Charolais females - unjoined and unjoined – to a top price of $2500 and an average price of $1660.
“There was a trend, a lot of money between $3000 and $4000 from commercial and vealer producers,” Mr Newcomen said.
“We realise the (bull) jobs has been back – we pulled back from offering 50 bulls.
“I think people are are worried about the economy, however it is encouraging to see that there are more Charolais bulls being sold this year.”
