A BULL ranking highly in the breed for muscle and marbling topped the Wirruna Poll Hereford sale at $16,000 yesterday.
The bull, Wirruna Echuca, was a Herefords Australia Limited progeny test sire last year.
Boasting carcass traits in the top five per cent for muscle and marbling on Breedplan, the spring 2009 drop bull was bought by genetics company ABS Australia, Albury.
The sale was hosted yesterday on-property at Holbrook by the Locke family.
From a total of 48 bulls offered, 37 were sold for an average of $4628 and gross of $171,250.
In the female lots, 29 were sold from the 32 offered for a top of $5100, a gross of $43,200 and average of $1350.
Overall, the sale had an 83 per cent clearance and a gross of $214,450 for the 66 lots sold.
Among the major buyers were Charlie Coleiro, Young, with one bull for $13,000, Ryder Pastoral Company, Tawonga, with two bulls to $6000 and Judy Brewer Fischer, Mudgegonga, with two bulls to average $2500.
