A FAMILY of four were lucky to escape a huge blaze at their two-storey Gisborne home early yesterday after a smoke alarm alerted them.

It was one of three overnight house fires and followed a spate of blazes in recent days.

CFA Bendigo duty officer Craig Brittain said firefighters called to the Bruce Court blaze about 6am found the timber home's roof alight and the occupants outside.

"The top floor collapsed into the bottom floor and the house became fully involved," Mr Brittian said.

The cause is yet to be determined but investigators believe it may have been electrical.
