PETER Tuohey is the new president of the Victorian Farmers Federation.
Murra Murra farmer David Jochinke has been elected vice-president.
The Pyramid Hill grain grower takes over from youthful Bridgewater leader Andrew Broad.
The result was announced in Bendigo today at the lobby group's annual conference.
Mr Tuohey's win caps off a long commitment to the VFF as vice president and also as vice president of the Grains Group.
He also crops 3500ha of wheat and canola and runs 1000 Merino ewes for wool and as a prime lamb base.
Mr Tuohey has promised to take "a fresh approach; a broader perspective on what the organisation does; who it represents and what it delivers for members''.
"Advocacy alone doesn't get you members - you also have to be a service provider, an innovative service provider,'' he said.
"For me to make that difference, I want to get our focus on delivering better outcomes for farmers and when we're smarter with our marketing, we'll earn greater respect from government and greater respect for farming.''
