NEW Victorian Farmers Federation president Peter Tuohey is hanging the success of his presidency on increasing the VFF's membership.

The Pyramid Hill grain grower told The Weekly Times that if the organisation did not increase its members it would not survive.

"If we don't lift the membership, we will not have a VFF," he said.

"We have got to grow, plain and simple."

Mr Tuohey said he would determine if his presidency was a success or failure, depending on whether the VFF membership numbers grew or not.

"I don't intend to fail.. I have set goals in the past and I intend to deliver," he said.

Mr Tuohey said he wanted young farmers and more women to join up.

The VFF had struggled to communicate its good work to farmers in the past.

However, the new president is optimistic he can achieve a spike in membership.
