THE Australian olive industry last night celebrated the best table olives and extra virgin olive oils produced in the country.

This week's two-day Australian Olive Association conference culminated in the Gala Awards Presentation dinner.

The Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) of Show award was taken out by John and Lorraine Milla from Abilene Grove, Borenore, NSW.

Coriole from McLaren Vale, South Australia, took home the award for Best Table Olives Of Show.

The Excellence Award for a producer with less than 200 litres was awarded to Andrew and Lyn Jamieson of Golden Creek Olives, in Fish Creek, Victoria.

A Service to Industry Award was presented to Peter McFarlane, an industry consultant, for his contribution to both the AOA and Olives South Australia.

"Peter has been a valuable contributor to the industry over many years,'' AOA chief executive Lisa Rowntree said.

"He's advised the industry on important issues as well as taken an active role in hands-on projects.

"It is always important to recognise those people and companies that support you and we would like to acknowledge the generous support of Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation and our award sponsors.

"It's when times are tough you really find out who is willing to stick by you  this year we were really grateful for the ongoing support of these great companies.''

All other winners can be found in the results book on the AOA Website.
