TWO men have died after their car left the road and hit a tree at Bulleen, in Melbourne's northeast, yesterday.

Investigators believe the Holden Commodore was travelling west on Manningham Road when it lost control on a bend and hit a tree at about 4pm (AEST) yesterday.

The driver and passenger both died at the scene.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

Their deaths take the state's road toll to 239, six more than for the same period last year.
