NORTHERN Australia is being urged to prepare for repeat onslaughts of cyclones in the future.

Meteorologist Ian Shepherd said two or three cyclones were likely this year in the northern region, which includes the Northern Territory and parts of Queensland and Western Australia.

Mr Shepherd said people living in Australia's Top End should check their homes remain cyclone code compliant, and those with older homes should check that they haven't weakened.
