A UNION has warned that Coles is risking lives by pressuring truck drivers to meet tight delivery deadlines.
The warning comes as the supermarket giant's owner prepares to hold its annual general meeting.
Transport Workers' Union members staged a small protest near a Sydney CBD Coles store today ahead of the Wesfarmers AGM in Perth.
Acting TWU national secretary Michael Kaine said it was one of several rallies around the country aimed at drawing a link between Coles and deaths on Australian roads.
A TWU report's found 80 per cent of surveyed truck drivers carrying freight for Coles believed pressure from the company led to unsafe on-road practices, and half said they'd been forced to delay vehicle maintenance.
