A YOUNG boy is in a stable condition after being hit by a car near Geelong last night.

The Herald Sun reports that the three-year-old boy's injuries, initially thought to be critical, have been downgraded to a broken leg.

The boy was with an adult in Ada St, Clifton Springs, when the collision happened at 8.45pm.
 
He was taken to the Royal Children's Hospital.

The 20-year-old driver has been interviewed by police and released without charge.
