A FRESH calved Holstein at $1750 topped at multi-vendor sale at Echuca today.
Another young Holstein cow with a Jersey-cross calf-at-foot offered by the same vendor sold for $1450.
There was only a small amount of Holsteins on offer at the Maddison Livestock sale.
The majority of the in-milk offering about 85 head, a mixture of Jerseys and cross-breds offered by Avonleigh Farms from Torrumbarry.
These topped at $1400 for a fourth lactation cross-bred by NZgreeny which calved in August.
All the Avonleigh offering had been running with stud Jersey bulls from October 20.
Most sales were from $900 with several good quality and neat-uddered Jerseys hitting selling from $1200 to $1350.
There was strong demand for about 26 cross-bred heifers, which had been with the Jersey bull.
Offered by Warwick Farms, the best of these sold to a top of $1550 with a few knocked-down between $1300-$1400.
Those that were smaller sold from $1100.
The best of the springers sold to $1400 for a Holstein, while two other Holsteins in-calf to a Holstein bull sold for $1250 and $1300 respectively.
Up to 100 unjoined heifers sold up to $640 for 10 cross-breds ready to join, while the this year's autumn-drop portion sold upwards of $290 with the best making $400.
The bull offering, about 11 head including both Jersey and Holstein from 18-months to two years old, were harder to move with the majority passed-in.
