SOUTHDOWN rams sold to a top of $2850 today at the Chandpara stud sale at Tylden.

Plenty of potential buyers came out to enjoy the sunshine but many were reluctant to purchase resulting in 27 out of a possible 70 head being passed in.

The average of $1095 was considerably down on last year's national record average of $1433.

Steve Taylor bought the 15-month-old top price ram on behalf of Tom Bull's Holbrook operation Lambpro.

"It's a short, thick ram and one that fits our breed specifics and it's a different blood line too," Mr Taylor said.

Chandpara principal Andrew Sellars-Jones said it was good to see buyers from South Australia, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania.

"I was pleased to see new buyers from all around Australia," Mr Sellars-Jones said.

"It was good to see the top price go to a new breeder in NSW."
