YOU know what they say, if you want some thing done, then do it your self.

South Australian MP Ivan Venning was so tired of waiting for the State Government to paint a bridge in his electorate he did it himself.

Ivan has been lobbying for years for a  spruce up of the Robin Bridge at Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley.

In  July, he finally offered to paint it himself if funds weren't forthcoming.

Nothing happened again, so last week Ian and a team of helpers donned their overalls, opened a can of green paint and started painting.

They finished the job in two days, saving the Government, Ivan  reckons, about $598,000.

Ivan said he thought of painting the bridge in the colours of his football team, Port Power, "just to stir a few people up'' but decided that might be a bridge too far.

So there, who said politicians don't earn their keep?
