SNOW has fallen at Mt Buller with temperatures expected to dip below 0C in the alpine region overnight.
Snow is forecast to fall 1500 metres today and tomorrow over Victoria's eastern ranges in a wintery intermission from summer temperatures.
Mt Buller spokeswoman Gillian Dobson said it had snowed earlier this morning but had since stopped.
The region is forecast to see a maximum of 6C today.
It comes as Melbourne is forecast to reach just 17C today following last week's burst of heat.
However the mid-week dip is set to be short-lived with the mercury forecast to reach 31C in Melbourne over the weekend.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Gary Missen said a high pressure system would form over South Australia on Thursday before travelling east, replacing the current cold front.
