THE CFA is warning Victorians Saturday will be a day of severe fire danger, with high temperatures and dry conditions across the state.
Melbourne is forecast to reach 37C on Saturday, and the temperature is tipped to be in the mid-30s throughout the state, before a cool change in the evening.Country Fire Authority state duty officer Scott Purdy said lower than average rainfall in recent months has heightened the bushfire danger.
"Already in the past few weeks we have seen some significant fire activity around the state," he said.
"Grasslands and forests, particularly north of the Divide, are very dry and present a fire hazard."
Mr Purdy urged residents in high-risk areas to prepare themselves and their properties for the possibility of a bushfire.
He said a decision will be made tomorrow on whether the state will be subject to a total fire ban.
