A MAN is fighting for his life and three others are seriously injured after their vehicle plummeted on to a railway line in Geelong.

The Herald Sun reports the carload of men, all believed to be aged in their 20s, was travelling west along Little Malop St before it failed to stop at the end of the road.

The car travelled off the embankment just after 5am before striking the other side of the embankment, plunging down the hill and landing beside railway tracks, about 1km south of Geelong station.

Train services on the Warrnambool to Geelong line are expected to be suspended for the morning peak as emergency services work to clear the scene.

It is not yet known what caused the vehicle to veer off the road.

It took emergency services 30 minutes to free the men who have since been transferred to Geelong hospital.

A CFA spokesman said four units had been dispatched to the scene at 5.12am.

Victoria Police’s Major Crash Investigation Unit is expected to probe the crash this morning.
