ANGUS cows and calves sold to $1200 at the Ballarat store cattle sale today.

About 1500 well-bred lines of cattle were offered with competition coming mostly from restockers looking to build up numbers before the Christmas break.

Prices for quality lines of cattle were generally firm.

The top line of grown Angus-Shorthorn steers were sold by Dean Farming, of Waubra, for $865 or 1.65c/kg.

The quality lines of weaned steers sold mostly between 1.77 and 1.82c/kg, while lighter steers made from $460 to $560.

There were a limited number of females penned with the best weaner heifers making up to $560.

Karingal Enterprises sold 14 first-calf Angus cows and 14 calves for $1200.
