FISHERIES officers say three men apprehended on the NSW north coast over an allegedly illegal haul of 77 lobsters face trafficking charges.

The officers stopped a vehicle at Wooli on Saturday after a boat crew was allegedly seen checking lobster traps in ocean waters off Wooli, then transferring sacks to the vehicle on shore.

All the lobsters were released alive back into the water.

It's alleged the commercial fisher did not have any quota to cover his catch.
