POLICE are investigating an alleged stabbing murder at Devonport last night.

No details have been released but it is understood two people were stabbed and one is dead, The Mercury reports.

A Tasmania Police spokesman said Devonport police would release a statement at noon.

This is the fifth killing in this state in just 10 days.

Last week saw two people shot dead in an alleged double murder at Hamilton on Sunday.

The man suspected of shooting the couple is in the Royal Hobart Hospital in a medically induced coma after shooting himself in the head.

On Wednesday last week a renowned health economics reformist and his partner were allegedly bludgeoned to death by the woman's son at their Mountain River home.

The alleged killer has been charged with two counts of murder and remanded in custody.
