Echuca Sgt Paul Nicoll said the accident involved a truck and car.
He said the truck was travelling south into Victoria and slowed for traffic and a woman following in a sedan slammed into the back of the truck.
It is believed the female driver was yelling at children fighting in the back of her car at the time.
“It was quite a heavy impact. The front of the car was crumpled right in. . . It blocked the bridge for about an hour,” Sgt Nicoll said.
The car’s driver and the children weren’t hurt in the accident.
This year thousands of people marched across the bridge demanding a second river crossing for Echuca-Moama.
It’s been a 50-year fight for residents and in August the Victorian Government said the project was a priority over bridge plans for Swan Hill and Yarrawonga.
