A FIREFIGHTER has died while battling a house fire at Gisborne, northwest of Melbourne.
The CFA firefighter, aged in his 40s, was attending a blaze at a house in Gisborne just before midnight (AEDT).He was found unconscious at the scene about 1.30am and paramedics were unable to revive him.
The firefighter was a volunteer with the Gisborne brigade.
The CFA is offering support and counselling to the man's family and the brigade.
CFA chief officer Euan Ferguson said the CFA was saddened by the loss and has extended its sympathies to the firefighter's family, friends and colleagues.
One person was home during the house fire in Brantome Street, but they were uninjured.
It took fire fighters about an hour to control the blaze.
