VICTORIA has recorded its first road fatality for 2013 after a man died when his car struck a tree.
Police said a car was trying to overtake another car on the South Gippsland Highway at Cranbourne early this morning when it crossed the centre median strip and crashed into a tree.The male driver of the car died at the scene.
The death is Victoria's ninth during the national road toll period.
