POPULAR support for NSW Labor has edged slightly higher, but is still far behind the Barry O'Farrell-led Coalition.

A Newspoll in The Australian says NSW Labor recorded a primary vote of 29 per cent in November and December, up one point from the previous poll, while the coalition, polled steady at 45 per cent of the primary vote.

The Liberal-National coalition holds a big 59 to 41 per cent lead over Labor on a two-preferred basis.

Labor leader John Robertson's approval rate has risen two points to 27 per cent, and Mr O'Farrell has also recorded a two point jump in his satisfaction rating, to 38 per cent.
