GRAIN is pouring into storages in the Western District as growers strip crops in the fine weather.
GrainCorp says more than 1.5 million tonnes have been delivered to its northwest Victoria sites and 1.18 million to its southeast sites this harvest.
A further 1.7 million has been delivered to GrainCorp sites in southern NSW.
GrainCorp spokesman Angus Trigg said harvest was winding down in southern NSW and parts of Victoria.
Emerald Grain regional operations manager Aaron Matheson said there were still "a good two or three weeks to go" for the harvest in the south.
"Most people are still doing barley and wheat is really starting to kick off," Mr Matheson said.
"There's still a hell of a lot of grain to come off.
"The timing is on a par with last year, but at the moment, the quality looks great."
He said yields were holding up well through the Western District with a high percentage of barley going malt.
He said westminster barley had been performing well and was taking over from gairdner as one of the most popular varieties.
Mr Matheson said tonnages for wheat through northwest Victoria were down on last year due to a dry growing season.
"They had the worst conditions of anywhere in the state," he said.
Mr Matheson said yields were average to slightly above average through the Wimmera.
