A FAST-moving bushfire is burning in areas near towns in Victoria's west.

The out-of-control fire is about 500ha in size and creating spot fires in grassland, the Country Fire Authority said.

The fire is in bushland about 15km southeast of the Goroke area, in the Wimmera region.

The CFA has issued a watch and act alert for Gymbowen, Mitre and Tooan, with the fire expected to impact those areas on tonight.

A relief centre is being established at the Horsham Town Hall for any residents who are relocating.

The town of Goroke, which has about 620 residents, is now not expected to be impacted by the fire.
