A BUSHFIRE close to a power station in the NSW Hunter region is burning out of control.
The Rural Fire Service is monitoring the fire one to two kilometres from the Bayswater power station near Muswellbrook.
The station was commissioned in 1985 and is one of the largest coal-fired power stations in Australia.
Fire is affecting north-bound lanes of the New England Highway and the Rural Fire Service has requested police close the road.
