IT WAS a mixed market at the first Yea weaner sale today.

While prices were expected to be at least $100 down on last year's sale, in places calves lost $150 and more.

Heavier weaner steers were cheaper on a cents a kilogram basis compared to recent sales at Hamilton and Wodonga, however younger and lighter steers, weighing less than 300kg were dearer.

The offering of 3118 steer weaners topped at $785 for a pen of February-March 2012-drop Charolais steers sold by HA Seeley from Ashwood Park at Flowerdale.

The run of Angus steers topped at $710 while the top Herefords sold up to $630.

Volume buyers were Sundown Pastoral Company from northern NSW, HF Richardson from Geelong operating on behalf of a client and Gippsland restockers.
