AN ELDERLY woman is dead after her car was in a crash with a truck north of Bendigo in one of two serious collisions in Victoria this morning.

Police are at the scene of fatal smash in Elmore, where the truck travelling east on Runnymede School Rd was in a collidsion with the woman’s car driving south on the Northern Highway, at 10.20am, the Herald Sun reports.

The woman, believed to be in her 70s, died at the scene, while a male passenger was taken to Bendigo Hospital suffering serious injuries.

The uninjured truck driver is assisting police.

Meanwhile, a woman is in an induced coma after a crash in Hepburn Springs about 5am.

Police believe the Daylesford woman, 24, was driving north on Mineral Springs Rd when she lost control on a bend and hit a tree on the opposite side of the road.

The woman was airlifted to The Alfred hospital with life-threatening injuries where she remains in a critical condition.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
