THE Queensland Government has been criticised for its handling of the recent Gulf country fires.

Katter's Australian Party Mt Isa MP Rob Katter has called on the government to increase financial help for graziers impacted by the fires.

"These fires raged for week and I was shocked by the sheer magnitude and impact on this farm land," Mr Katter said.

"The State Government’s paltry $100,000 financial assistance would barely scratch the surface.

"Eleven properties have 90% or more burned out from roughly 213 properties affected by fires, with an average value of these businesses about $5 million.

"The situation up there is devastating, and people have lost their livelihoods."

Mr Katter said the $100,000 donation was a start but graziers needed "much more".
