UPDATE: THE CFS says a bushfire at Greenways in South Australia's lower South-East that was threatening safety has now reduced.

The bushfire was travelling in a northerly direction towards Cortina Station, located between Woodleigh Rd and Jorgensons Rd.

The fire was burning in scrub and conditions were continually changing, but the threat has now reduced, the CFS said.

At 2pm, there were more than 100 firefighters working to contain the fire, which is in a pine forest and grasslands.

Firefighters were supported by four aerial water bombing aircraft and two aerial observation aircraft.

Smoke may still be present, visibility may be reduced and there may be falling trees.

Residents should check their properties for any fires and embers - particularly in roof spaces, under decks, raised floors and in gutters.

You should take care in the fire area over the next few days.
