HISTORY was made at International Dairy Week today, with the first ever senior champion cow sold.

The Ayrshire, Encore Pardner Didjago, was crowned supreme breed exhibit and then went under the hammer about 20 minutes later. It sold for $8000.

Dairy Livestock Services auctioneer and IDW director Brian Leslie told the crowd at Tatura it was the first time the senior champion of any breed was sold at IDW.

The seven-year-old, out of the highest scored Ayrshire in Australia, sold for $8000 to a syndicate.

Bred and showed by Llyod and Lynda Burgmann of Drouin, the couple bought 12 head to IDW, 11 of which can be traced back to a cow bought from South Australia called Didjago.

She’s still in their milling herd and classified 9E.

Describing the show win as “a good feeling” Lylod said he and Lynda were moving-on from milking and hoped the new owners of the grand champion Ayrshire would enjoy her as much as they did.

“That’s a part of cows, it really is,” Llyod said.

“Somebody else will get a bit of joy out of her.”

The Burgmanns also took out premier breeder and exhibitor in the biggest Ayrshire show in IDW history.

Mt Gambier, South Australia Brown Swiss breeder Jennifer Van Rijthoven will take a swag of ribbons across the border.

Her stud Grasslands won best udder, grand champion exhibit, champion and reserve champion cow.

A first time IDW exhibitor, Trent Lee from Kempsy in NSW took out the Illawarra grand champion with Miss Ruby, while it was back-to-back wins for the Gary Joyce and Kevin Gass in the Guernsey ring.

The Western Victorian breeders claimed breed champion again with Florando SD Koala.

The Jersey Showcase sale will be held tonight.

Jerseys will enter the show ring tomorrow before Holsteins on Thursday.
