PRICES equalled recent sales at other centres despite subdued bidding at today's special store sheep sale at Wycheproof.

The yarding of about 8000 Border Leicester-Merino cross and Merino sheep attracted a smaller than usual crowd.

Joined first-cross ewes made up to $128, unjoined first-cross ewes sold to $118 and ewe lambs topped the sale at $132.

Joined Merino ewes fetched up to $131, unjoined Merino ewes $90, Merino wethers $80 and wether lambs $73.

A client of Elders Ballarat paid the day's top price of $132 for 233 first-cross March 2012-drop ewe lambs from Kaniva Holdings.

Not far behind was Elders Boort clients CD & KM Rothacker, who paid $131 for 181 April-May 2011-drop, Canowie blood, August shorn, Merino ewes joined to Poll Dorset rams, from Sterling Park.

Restockers, especially from the Bendigo area, bought mainly older sheep, while three buyers for meat processors competed for lambs.
