THE Lockyer Valley, which was hit by deadly floods two years ago, has activated its disaster coordination centre as torrential rain falls.

Lockyer Valley mayor Steve Jones says the centre is monitoring local creeks and issuing alerts through Facebook, and the council's website.

The Bureau of Meteorology says heavy rainfall of up to 150mm has been recorded in the 24 hours since 9am yesterday in the catchments of Lockyer, Laidley and Warrill Creeks and the Bremer River.

The Bureau says further heavy rainfall is expected during the next 24 hours and widespread moderate to major flooding is possible in Lockyer Creek and Bremer River and tributaries during today and tomorrow.
