A SEARCH has resumed for a canyoner who got into trouble during wild weather in bushland in the Blue Mountains.

A personal locator beacon was activated east of Mt Wilson in the Blue Mountains area just before 7pm (AEDT) last night.

It's believed the 26-year-old man from Queanbeyan was canyoning in the area when the beacon was set off.

Due to poor lighting and bad weather, a full scale search was suspended late yesterday, police said.

A search is now under way by the Blue Mountains Police Rescue Squad, Ambulance Special Casualty Access Team & Hawkesbury SES personnel.

It's believed the weather will improve, assisting the search today, a police spokesman said.
