THE historic gold town's tourism operators in particular were worried about the effect the fires were having on visitors.
One wag posted this picture on the town's Facebook page last week to assure tourists to keep coming to the town.
"No matter what happens, Walhalla is ready! We have a great team of well-prepared people, a wonderful local CFA, DSE resources and plenty of fire equipment ... even our 1904 Merryweather fire cart may be handy ... it still works, you know!"
