A TRUCK driver has died and another is in hospital after a B-double slammed into the back of a stationary semi-trailer near Balranald.

Police said emergency services were called to the Sturt Highway 20km east of Balranald at about 8am following reports of a crash involving two trucks.

A 41-year-old male driver died at the scene and another driver has been taken to Mildura Hospital, in Victoria, with serious injuries.

Police said the Sturt Highway will be closed for several hours as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
