THE federal opposition would be sure to win the election if Malcolm Turnbull was leader, independent MP Tony Windsor says.Mr Windsor concedes Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott are both unpopular.
"I think each of them have kept the other one in the game," he told ABC television yesterday.
"If Malcolm Turnbull was leader of the opposition for instance I think it would be all over, red rover."
Asked if Labor would win with Kevin Rudd at the helm, Mr Windsor was more equivocal: "Perhaps".
But he said he had no idea if the Labor caucus was re-considering its leadership choice.
The 62-year-old member for New England is running for re-election in September but faces a voter backlash over his support for the minority Labor government.
