THE Federal Government has given NSW Premier Barry O'Farell a week to respond to concerns about coal seam gas exploration.

Federal environment minister Tony Burke has repeatedly expressed frustration at NSW demands for a different set of rules on CSG mining.

Mr Burke's told ABC radio Queensland, Victoria and South Australia have agreed to fully incorporate independent scientific work funded by the federal government into their process.

He says he can't understand why New South Wales hasn't followed suit.

Mr Burke says the federal government's exploring all the options to resolve the dispute.
