UPDATE: EXPERIENCED firefighter Steven Kadar is being remembered today for his wicked sense of humour and his love of the outdoors.

The 34-year-old, from Corryong, died along side firefighting teen Katie Peters when a tree hit their car while they worked on the Harrietville-Alpine North fire on Wednesday.

Mr Kadar started with the DSE as a project firefighter in 2004 later taking on a role as a full-time field services officer.

This afternoon his family released a statement saying Mr Kadar lit up the lives of his family and friends.

"Steven was absolutely devoted to his family and embraced his role of uncle to his sister’s children and 'adopted' uncle to the other children in his family," it read.

"He was a source of constant fun and delight to them all, playing Lego, dressing up for birthday parties and reading bedtime stories.

"He was a very strong and dependable person and his family was very proud of the life he had formed in Corryong."

His family also said he had found the love of his life in Albury with his partner Leah.

"It was wonderful to see him so happy and so much in love, they had so many dreams and plans for their future together."
