THE reporting deadline for the Victorian parliamentary committee inquiry into sexual abuse within religious organisations has been extended.

The inquiry was due to report back to parliament by the end of April.

But at an inquiry hearing in Geelong today, chair Georgie Crozier said the reporting deadline has been extended until September 30.

The inquiry into religious and non-governmental organisations' handling of child abuse is hearing from a number of sex abuse victims today.
