PRICES were dearer on recent sales at the annual Ballarat steer sale today.Grown steers sold to $935, while weaner steers sold up to $730.
Selling agent Gerard White said grown steers were up $40 to $50 on the last market and the top weaners were $60 up.
"The way the season is, to present cattle in such good order is a credit to the vendors," he said.
The top pen of grown steers sold for $935 and consisted of 11 Angus steers weighing 562kg sold by A and D Spiteri.
Other grown steers sold down to $710 with some lighter pens reaching only $650.
Processors and backgrounders were active on the weaner steers with a pen of 370kg Angus steers, February-March 2012 drop selling for $730. They were from the Grigg family at Newlyn.
Most of the weaner steers sold for about $600 with pens of lighter weaners making over the 200c/kg mark.
Buyers were active from Leongatha, Mt Gambier, Pakenham and Horsham.
